OTs and Romsey 5ths hosted Steeple Langford 2nds on a warm but breezy afternoon last Saturday.

Steeple Langford had first use of the wicket and their openers made a good start before J Trodd made a breakthrough bowling Miles. From then on Langford kept up a reasonable run rate but Romsey steadily took wickets and the visitors were 145-6 with 15 overs remaining. Dhanji(62*) and Harvey(32) put on a brisk 50 partnership though as the tail enders hit out well, and the Romsey bowlers all took some stick along the way. After the 42 overs Steeple Langford finished on a useful 250-8 which would take some getting. J Trodd took 3-42 and J Humphries and R Wathen took 2 wickets apiece with Menage picking up the other one.

Romsey were to chase the runs with only 10 men as while fielding B Wathen bizzarely gashed his knee with his own spikes and went off to hospital as a precaution.

Openers in-form Hayes(15) and Thebe(27) made a brisk start putting on 43 before the latter was out. Soon after Hayes was run-out after failing to make a single after being dropped. Menage and Mason made single figures, but the Trodd cousins James and Sam played confidently and skillfully taking the score past 150 as James reached a second fifty of the season before he was caught and bowled for 52. Sam Trodd(36)  continued to play well until he was bowled by the visitors skipper Pieterse who’s 4-21 thwarted Romsey’s chance of victory and when last man J Humphries was caught the home side were all out for 198, just failing to gain maximum batting points losing in the end by 52 runs.
