OTs and Romsey 5ths were away to Hursley 4ths for their final game of the season on Saturday.
Hursley opted to bat on winning the toss on a muggy afternoon and it was a case of two outstanding performances for both sides. Hursley’s Parviz scored a fine 104 scoring well over half of his team’s final total of 172 all out. For Romsey young Rhys Wathen produced a magical spell of 7-39 off of 10 overs with his off spin for his first ever 5 wicket haul. The consistent J Humphries, D Mogg and P Menage picking up a wicket each. S Trodd took 3 stumpings and catch as Romsey used 3 wicketkeepers during the innings.
Without the absent B Hayes, evergreen Dave Danson was given the opportunity to open along with Ollie Jordan. The pair started cautiously but both began to get in their stride, both hitting loose balls to the boundary and rotating the strike well. This resulted in a superb 128 run stand before a tired Danson was finally out for 78 walking off to a rapturous ovation. Romsey were hugely on top now and were to lose no more wickets as Jordan(72*) now started to dominate the bowling and was supported by S Trodd(8*). Jordan brought up victory with a six giving Romsey a big win by 9 wickets with 7 overs to spare.
This should ensure promotion for OTs and Romsey 5ths after a solid season of 9 wins out of 15 games.
