OTs & Romsey (152-5) beat Fawley (148 all out) by five wickets
OTs & Romsey first team secured their eighth win of the season to remain second in the SEPCL Division 2 table as they comfortably defeated Fawley by five wickets.
Fawley won the toss and decided to bat first and made a good start with opener Tom Gates beginning well. However, it was set to be the spinners’ day as Jody Brown and Chris Wood ripped through the Fawley line-up.
Once Wood removed Gates for 38, the away side offered little resistance. There were two further wickets for the Hampshire man as he removed two of the top three.
Brown then made light work of the visitor’s remaining batsmen as he took a superb five wicket haul which saw Fawley slip from 137-5 to 148 all out. There was also a wicket apiece for Daniel Mogg and Pete Newman.
It was then Romsey’s turn to bat and Gus Flack and Brown got them off to a good start, hitting 17 and 21 respectively.
In the end 148 was never going to be enough to secure victory for Fawley and an impressive partnership between Wood and Stuart Shapland guided Romsey to victory with nearly half their 50 overs to spare. Wood top scored with 68*, with Shapland adding a useful 29*.
