OTR III's: 280 all out
St Cross Symondians IV's: 146/9
After a bit of an unconvincing win a week previously, the Third XI bounced back with a clinical win, demolishing a St Cross side who by their own admission were understrength. The OTR's innings was underpinned by a brilliant 81 from Paul Longland, who was run out in bizarre circumstances at the non strikers end. Longland was ably supported by Mark Allen (46) in a first wicket stand of 108 and OTR continued to pile on the runs, despite losing regular wickets, Poolman in particular was very unlucky to be adjudged LBW, and trudged off the field inspecting a nice new cherry in the middle of his bat. A very timely contribution from the recently in form Charlie Evans (37) helped OTR amass a daunting total of 280 all out. Over a cup of tea, skipper Neagle (0*), with his ever high standards declared that a score of 340 would have been more well received and that perhaps the batters had been wasteful.
Heading into the field, OTR’s never really let the opposition get close to the score, with Katie George and Charlie Evans picking up a couple of wickets a piece to break the backbone of the chase, before Neagle fancied a roll and picked up the last three wickets to be taken. The sides leading wicket taker has been particularly efficient this season in picking up the oppositions lower order, and once again proved his canny knack of forcing the fielders into world class catches, Katie George helping out the skipper on this occasion.
