2nds lose away at Ventor

Sat. 20th May

Ventnor II (220-4) beat OTs & Romsey II (218 all out) by six wickets

OTs & Romsey II’s trip to the Isle of Wight ended in defeat as they lost to Ventnor II by six wickets.
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, the hosts struck early and left Romsey 35-3 after Paul Longland, Shane Vidler and Dan Collins fell cheaply to the bowling of Hugh Calloway and S Reid.
The visitors soon hit back through an impressive half century from Stu Shapland and a more than useful knock of 31 from Dan Mogg.
But once Shapland had been caught out for 53, it was the hosts who took the ascendency once more, with Reid (4-46) looking particularly dangerous.
Wickets continued to tumble for Romsey but number 8 batsman Lewis Allen stopped the Ventnor bowlers in their tracks with a half century of his own. He fired five boundaries on his way to hitting 57 to guide the visitors to 218 all out.
In response, the hosts got off to a solid start, with opening batsmen John Buckman and Tom Stafford sharing a first wicket stand of 64 before the latter was caught out off Shapland’s bowling.
Two quick run outs and a wicket for Allen then reduced the home side to 93-4 as Romsey looked for victory.
However, the pressure soon subsided with some superb batting from Calloway (70*) and Alex Horton (51*) seeing Ventnor cruise to victory with six wickets to spare.

Physiotherapy support for Old Tautonians and Romsey Cricket Club playing members.

This year I will be happy to provide playing members with physiotherapy and exercise advice to help address potential injury, manage existing injury and treat injury sustained throughout the season. Hopefully this will allow early return to play or advice when it is appropriate to rest.
I have been working with the physiotherapy team at Hampshire cricket club and modified the ECB screeing tool so that it is appropriate for recreational cricketers. This tool is designed to help identify movement or strength faults that may lead to injury and can guide a strength and / or flexibility exercise programme.
Screening has been taking place during the net sessions at the Hampshire Collegiate School, this will continue to be offered to players throughout the season. Just let me know.
For injury advice, treatment and strapping I will be available most Tuesday evenings at the club between 6.30 – 8.00pm and Saturday mornings between 10.30 – 12.00 am. We plan to set-up a booking system on the club website. Alternatively, you can ring me on 07496508409 to arrange an appointment.
I am happy to help players who are committed at working hard at maintaining their physical health.
What these sessions are NOT is a rub up before or after a game.
I look forward to working with you and hope for a successful 2017 season.
Cheers
Martin Kerridge-Weeks
