OTs and Romsey 5ths travelled north of Salisbury to play Winterbourne 2nds on Saturday.
Romsey batted first and lost a wicket early but then in form B Hayes and J Trodd(15) put on 37 before the latter was caught. Another wicket then fell and then Hayes was bowled for a useful 34. From then on Romsey lost wickets just when partnerships seemed set but D Service(40*) held firm and with A Danson(21) and some useful runs from the tail OTs and Romsey reached 154-8 after 42 overs.
After tea Winterbourne began their reply and put on 20 before J Humphries struck for Romsey. Winterbourne’s number 3 and 4 soon came and went but runs were flowing at the other end from opener White(41) so when D Thebe had him stumped off Wathen Romsey still had hopes. In the following over A Danson struck twice including bowling the dangerous Manny(18) with a fine delivery. At 93-6 Romsey were now on top and Winterbourne’s tail had no answer to the young bowlers, and backed up by some top catches from the ‘older’ players Winterbourne were all out for 115, OTs and Romsey winning by 39 runs. R Wathen and A Danson took 3 wickets each, 2 for J Humphries and 1 each for J Trodd and P Menage.
