Marvellous Max
Ot’s & Romsey II team carried on their good start to the season by beating mid table opponents Hook & Newman II by 7 wickets.
On what was a nice day Ot’s & Romsey lost the toss and had to bowl first. At what looked a really good batting track Hooks top order didn’t prove it justice with Joe Welch (3-20) taking a wicket with the first ball of the innings. Even though Welch took a wicket first ball he didn’t take his foot of the gas hitting good speeds and taking three more good wickets. Throughout Hooks innings , other than one batsman A Darmondy (75) none of their batsman could really get going with good spells from Max Smith (1-37) , Matt Bampton (1-39) & Rich Lake (1-28) restricted Hook to 208 on a good batting track.
In the second innings Romsey got off to a good start with Shane Vidler (25) looking like he was getting back to good forum before he was spectacularly caught out. However Max Smith (125*) carried on his good form from last week frustrating the hook bowling attack carrying his bat throughout the innings. There was a slight blip in the Romsey Order but all was restored when Rich Lake came to the party smashing a quick 50 not out and winning the game. Next week Ot’s & Romsey II have a big game against second place Shrewton at the Sports Centre.
