OTs & Romsey I, II & IV round-up —  Saturday 9th May

5/15/2015

It was a mixed weekend for Romsey’s other three teams, with the first team securing their first win of the season but the second and fourth teams both lost their opening fixtures.

The first team hosted Langley Manor and were boosted by the inclusion of Hampshire player Chris Wood in their squad.

Romsey batted first and managed 223-7 in their 50 overs, with Wood (47) and Pete Newman (41) the pick of the batsman.

In reply, Langley Manor never looked like chasing their target, with Wood picking up three wickets and Rob Newman taking four, the first team won by 75 runs.  See photos of this game in the Gallery.

The second team travelled to Fair Oak, where despite four wickets from Matty Bampton and two from Harry Tulk, the hosts managed 227-9 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Romsey fell agonizingly short of victory. Shane Vidler hit 42 and Tulk smashed 74 but it was not quite enough, with the away side losing by just seven runs.

The fourth team also suffered defeat, at home to Over Wallop. Batting first, Romsey struggled to score runs with only three batsman making double figures. Max Costley and Pete Newton both hit 17 but Rich Wade outscored them both, hitting 53. Romsey were all out for 116.

With a low total to defend, Romsey gave a good account of themselves whilst bowling but 116 was never going to enough for victory. Tight bowling from Sam Costley put pressure on the Over Wallop batsman and Cam Melling took three wickets but in the end, the visitors secured victory by four wickets.
